"MY BLUE HEAVEN" Exhibition 28 March-22 April
The March edition of Textiles Downunder magazine has a feature by Leanne O'Sullivan, the owner of Kimono House, about Japanese BORO textiles. An exhibition of Leanne's personal collection of indigo textiles including garments and patchwork opened on 28 March. The beautiful blue textiles of Boro, Katazome, kasuri, shibori and sashiko will be hanging at Kimono House until 22 April. Closed over Easter including Friday 14 to Monday 17 April.

‘Kimono Portraits’ Reflections of Japan and its People
by Maria Giannoukas & Theo Giannoukas
An interesting collaboration of skills including visual and textile art to create unique collage portraits stitched in vintage and hand-dyed kimono fabric.
This series of humble portraits inspired by the artists’ personal experiences and relationship with Japan will be exhibited for the first time at Kimono House.

BORO The Thread of Life EXHIBITION

Kimono House Gallery will have a textile and photography exhibition on Japanese Rag Patchwork. A collection of BORO textiles with photography of the cloth by Darron Davies will be open to visitors for 2 weeks in February with a twilight viewing until 7pm on Saturday 20 Feb.

Kimono House celebrates the new season with Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. A vintage kimono exhibition is the perfect backdrop for our popup boutique. Our unique range of dresses, tops and skirts in Japanese kimono silk, cotton and wool are available for 2 days only. There is sure to be some special piece in our range for your new spring wardrobe.
"Winter Forest" Quilt Art Exhibition
We are excited to be a part of Winter in the City of Melbourne and to have multi-award winning textile artist Takashi Katahira here from Japan in July. Takashi will have his first Australian exhibition of quilt art in our gallery space July 4-18 Tuesday to Saturday 11am-4pm. Meet the artist Saturday 4 July 4pm-6pm or join his one-day embroidery and applique workshop to create your own art quilt in miniature inspired by the exhibition's title piece "Winter Forest".

KIMONO HOUSE HAS MOVED..... but not far!
Kimono House is excited to announce we have moved! We are still in the Nicholas Building and on the same floor but just a bigger and better space.
Now our shop, studio and classroom are all together and we also have a gallery space.
New trading hours include Tuesdays so we are now open 10am-5pm Tuesday to Saturday.
When you come to the Nicholas Building, exit the lifts on Level 2, turn left as you did before and you will see our big double doors open to welcome you in. Our street address is still Level 2 Nicholas Building, 37 Swanston Street, Melbourne (near corner Flinders Lane).
Our light-filled classroom and gallery space are now available for exhibitions and casual rental so we look forward to receiving any proposals from interested teachers and artists.

During this intimate twilight event you are invited to visit specialist retail spaces,
galleries and artist studios.
As part of this event KIMONO HOUSE will have extended trading hours until 9pm on
Thursday 28 August and Friday 29 August. Other participants in the building will have
their doors open from 4pm for you to visit.

FUNDRAISER THANK YOU
Thanks to all those who contributed to our fundraising over the past few months to raise money for the Japan Tsunami Appeal. We reached our goal and beyond with a final amount of $2436.85 collected from kimono sales and donations. All funds raised have been donated to the Red Cross.

A new set of 4 Melbourne Hide & Seek books will be launched today and Kimono House features in the title "Treasure Trove" now available at our shop for $14.95. This handy book includes many Melbourne hidden treasures for shopping and the other 3 titles in the set cover bars, food and interesting places to visit. New Craft Kits - available now on-line
We have been busy this year developing a new range of craft kits to add to our collection.
Designed with the beginner in mind, most of the kits can be hand-stitched and are suitable for any skill level.
Just in time for Christmas these will make a great gift or something to do over the holidays.

We will be part of a Christmas market 2nd floor of the Nicholas Building again this year. Come along to find some interesting and unique gifts from all the tenants on our floor and other friends within the building.
New Weaving Workshop
We have had a new workshop added to our program for summer.
ZORI is one of the traditional Japanese footwear in a similar shape to the thongs we see today.
For the first time in Melbourne, Shintaro Tokairin from Japan, invites you to his hands-on workshop to make the environmentally friendly and most of all, very unique and original nuno zori for you to own this summer. See workshop list to make a booking.
We are really sorry about this but our Crafternoon days for July have been cancelled. Please contact us for the next scheduled date for these drop-in sessions during winter.
Nicholas Building Open Studio
The dates have been confirmed for this year's Open Studio evenings in our much loved Nicholas Building. Come along and see the work of our talented neighbours as they open their studio doors for this once-a-year event. A rare chance to purchase directly from several of the artists and designers of the Nicholas Building.
THURSDAY 19 & FRIDAY 20 AUGUST 4-9PM
Kimono House will host a series of Crafternoons during the winter months. We open our studio space 2 afternoons a month for you to come and use for your own craft project.
Dates are: 1-4pm Sat 12 June, Wed 7 & Sat 24 July, Wed 4 & Sat 21 August, Wed 8 & Sat 25 September 2010. No fee to join in but sewing machine rental if required.
The new program through to end September 2010 has been finalised. Our teacher's return to inspire you this winter with some new classes in bag, purse, quilt and a fabulous skirt panel.
VERY excited to have Yoshiko Wada with us for a masterclass in shibori and indigo dyeing during her visit to Australia in September.

"Handmade in Melbourne" Launch of 2nd Edition
Recently you may have seen the new edition of Handmade in Melbourne on bookshelves. This book references 200 of Melbourne’s makers of art and craft with some beautiful images and a little “window” of text about each individual. Leanne would like to thank the editors for approaching her to be a part of this updated version and is thrilled to be included in this book about Melbourne’s creative community.
