In Japan a traditional inn is a “ryokan”.  Guests are welcomed with a bow at the door and provided slippers and cotton yukata to wear duiring their stay.   In the evenings a Japanese dinner of many courses is served  in guestrooms and  futon bedding setup on the tatami mat floors while guests bathe in a hot tub.  The whole experience is one of pampered relaxation in a calm environment.  Shizuka Ryokan is such a place not in Japan but in Hepburn Springs just over an hour’s drive out of Melbourne.
